Traceability Recognized As Key Technology To Meet United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

By Louis Roy
President at OPTEL GROUP

Recently, I had the honor of being invited to two major UN world conferences, the World Economic Forum’s Sustainable Development Impact Summit and the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit, which gathered over 4,000 like-minded and important players from various sectors across the globe.

The numerous conversations I had with various Heads of State, Government and UN representatives, as well as hundreds of Chief Executives from some of the world’s leading businesses like David W. MacLennan, CEO of Cargill, and Paul Polman, CEO of Unilever, confirmed that OPTEL will be a vital cornerstone of great positive change for humanity.

The reason OPTEL was deemed worthy of the attendee list is its status as leading provider of traceability systems. You may be wondering how this relates to the UN, but traceability is now officially recognized as the main technology to help solve some of humanity’s most critical issues.

In fact, OPTEL’s solutions address several of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals through their ability to:

  • Ensure food safety (improves health and combats hunger by reducing food waste)
  • Prevent drug counterfeiting and product diversion (improves health and safety)
  • Engage small holders and artisanal production (helps improve safety, reduce poverty as well as child labor)
  • Support industry’s transition to the 4th industrial revolution leading to a circular economy (contributes to innovative infrastructure and ensures responsible production and consumption)
  • Help reduce waste overall (helps protect the environment)
  • Create transparency on the social and environmental impact of goods

And this is just the beginning, as the possibilities are endless. The biggest difference between past global efforts and current ones is that technology is no longer a limitation, so we can keep on building to address different issues as we go.

As a whole, I was very pleased to see that in the eyes of such respected worldwide leaders and change-makers, OPTEL’s technology ecosystem based on traceability and consumer experience is spot on, and many discussions led to this solution without my intervention. Needless to say, this was very encouraging for me and I remain optimistic that as more and more organizations join in, sustainability will become increasingly attainable.
